The study, published in Agricultural Systems in 2026, examined 231 farms that provided milk for the production of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Animal welfare was assessed by the CRENBA protocol; better environmental performance was seen, especially on farms that reached a high level of well-being with strong herd management.
