Within the framework of the event, Donovan met with Khalid Hatimy, Minister of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of Morocco. The talks assessed the priorities in Morocco's Génération Green agriculture strategy, efficiency in water use, and applied genetics in agriculture. The ambassador presented the Australian experience on these issues and the cooperation initiatives between the two countries. Agricultural water management has been cited as one of the main areas of work of the partnership.
Moroccan-Australian agricultural cooperation is being conducted through structures such as the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the African-Australian partnership. This framework aims to strengthen research, education and knowledge sharing with INRA Maroc, ICARDA, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), APNI and other university partners. At the Morocco International Agricultural Fair (SIAM) earlier in the year, the Australian Embassy, ACIAR and Australian Rubicon Water company also introduced solutions and expertise in agricultural water management.
