Production of Organic Agricultural Products in Iran Remains Below 1%

In Iran, less than 1% of agricultural products are produced by organic means. Sadruddin Nayavari, Vice President of the Iranian Organic Association, shared data on the current state of organic production in the country, in a statement at the association's press conference. Nayavari said Iran has a high production capacity in organic agriculture, but due to the lack of accurate and comprehensive statistics, the actual state of the sector has not been fully assessed.

In order for the organic sector to develop, a special budget line must be established that covers producers and consumers, Nayavari said. Stating that this support should cover the entire chain from production to the product reaching the consumer, Nayavari argued that if only 10% of the production support budgets were allocated to organic agriculture, there would be a huge jump in the industry.

Organic products are sold at a price 10% to 15% higher than other products in the country. Nayavari saw the need for the development of organic production for a healthy society and called for exhibitions to be organized, consumers to be informed and producers to be directed to this method in order to increase demand in the domestic market.
